/ùYou are using the TBBS Configuration Editor Version 2.3.  This is
the program you use to define many of the TBBS custom options.

The F1 help key is fully context sensitive.  Use it at any field
or dialog box to obtain information on that item.

This program allows mouse control of all of its features.  All
status line indicators are "mouse active" as are all edit fields,
menu items, action line entries, and dialog box buttons.

To begin editing your TBBS configuration you should select one of
the items from the Action Line at the top of the screen.

                            I/O Error

An error has been reported by DOS.  If a file is involved, it
has been listed in the error box.  Press any key to continue.
                     Create New Configuration

If you select yes, CEDIT will initialize its configuration data
base with default values for all items.  If you fill in all items
in CEDIT and save the result, you will create a complete new
configuration file.
If you select "No" any changes you have made will be discarded.

If you select "Yes" any changes you have made will be saved.

If you select "Resume" you will resume your editing session as it
was before you reached this point.
You cannot define any more entries of this type.  You have
already defined the maximum you are allowed.
The CONFIG.CTL file you just loaded was created by a previous
version of TBBS software.  If you save the file now, CEDIT will
convert the file to TBBS 2.3 format.  Since there are some new
settings in TBBS 2.3 which were not in the older CONFIG.CTL,
CEDIT will provide default settings for those values.  You may
wish to check each entry to be sure these settings are what you
want to use.
If you answer "Yes" this entry will be deleted.

If you answer "No" this entry will remain as it was.
              Creation of the First Event

You have attempted to edit an event and no events of that type
have yet been defined.  This dialog box is asking if you want
to create the first event of this type so you can edit it.

If you answer "Yes" the first event will be created and you will
be placed into edit mode to fill it in.

If you answer "No" there will still be no events of this type.
      Option to Save Changes on Exit From Edit Screen

You are leaving an edit screen in which you have made changes to
your CEDIT configuration data.  You did not explicitly save those
changes with the F10 save and exit key.

If you answer "Yes" here, these changes will be saved as you exit
this screen.

If you answer "No" here, these changes will be discarded and
your configuration will be as it was before you entered this
edit screen and made those changes.
In order to handle high speed modems, TBBS 2.2 had a field mod
which allowed you to use either 57k or 115k port speeds.  In
order to properly convert your CONFIG.CTL file and/or your
UMODEM.DEF file to TBBS 2.3 format, CEDIT must know if you put
in one of those mods, and if so, which one.

Press "1" if you installed the 115k field mod

Press "5" if you installed the 57k field mod

Press "N" if you have not installed either high speed mod
You created one or more User Modem Definitions under TBBS 2.2
which are stored in UMODEM.DEF.  These definitions cannot be
used as-is by TBBS 2.3.  You may elect to have CEDIT convert
these definitions to work for TBBS 2.3, or delete the entire
UMODEM.DEF file and allow you to create any User Modem
Definitions from scratch under TBBS 2.3.

Press "C" to convert the UMODEM.DEF file (Your original
          UMODEM.DEF file will be renamed to UMODEM.BAK)

Press "D" to delete the UMODEM.DEF file
                       Edit Configuration

This selection allows you to edit all of your configuration
options by paging through them one screen at a time.  The
sub-menu allows you to choose a starting point for editing.

You may use the Page Up and Page Down keys to view and/or
edit all configuration screens regardless of which one you
started editing.

Each screen is displayed in "viewing" mode.  To edit the
screen you are viewing, press the F2 key while that screen
is being displayed.  When you are done editing a given
screen, press <Esc> to return to viewing mode, where you
can page to any other CEDIT screen you wish to edit.
                     Print TBBS Configuration

This selection will print a formatted listing of all of your TBBS
configuration information.  This listing may be used as a backup
or permanent reference for your TBBS system.
                      Save TBBS Configuration

Changes made in CEDIT are not permanent, and do not take effect
until you save them.  This option will save your current CEDIT
settings and exit to DOS.
                            Quit CEDIT

This selection will leave CEDIT.  If you have made changes, you
will be asked if you wish to discard them or save them.
                      Change System Options

This section allows you to set several system wide options.
                   Chat Command Display Method

This option determines what happens when the user selects the
"Chat with SYSOP" item (Type 23) from a menu. In either mode,
the SYSOP is summoned by a tone on the internal speaker.

1 - TBBS will pause and start ticking off seconds by printing
    periods on the user's display for 60 seconds. If, during the
    60 seconds, the user presses any key, the message "Paging
    aborted" will be sent to the user, and normal system
    operation will resume.

2 - TBBS will display a message to the user saying, "Paging
    System Operator... " then continue normal operation.
                     Chat Mode = (0, 1 or 2)

This option allows you to determine who may use the "chat" menu
option, and how they may use it.

0 - Allow all users (regardless of authorization and privilege
    levels) to see and use the "chat" command wherever it appears
    on a menu overriding the menu priv and access flag settings.

1 - The menu "chat" option to be treated like all other menu
    options -- it may be seen and used only by users with the
    appropriate privilege levels and access flags.

2 - Allows the SYSOP to "turn off" the chat option altogether
    regardless of how it may be listed on TBBS menus.
                 Local Display Rate (0-7, 0=Fast)

When you logon to TBBS from your host terminal, the display on
your screen is not controlled by the transmission rate of the
modem, as it is for remote users. This option determines how fast
the system will send information to your terminal in local mode.
You will need to experiment to determine what local display rate
you prefer.
                     Auto-Blank Idle Display

This option determines the number of minutes the TBBS idle screen
is shown on your local screen during idle periods, or a 0 to
indicate that it should not automatically turn off at all.

The maximum value here is 59 minutes.
                   Count Local Logons as Calls

Many TBBS system operators perform most of their system
maintenance by logging on from the host terminal.  This option
determines whether the system will count such logons as user
calls, or not. If you are trying to keep a realistic record of
user activity, we recommend NO for this option.
            Allow Fast Sysop Local Logon = (YES or NO)

"Yes" responds to a local logon with the question "SYSOP logging
on (Y/N)?". If you then press the Y key, TBBS will log you on
using the SYSOP record from the userlog. If you press N, it will
present a full logon sequence as is normally done remotely.

"No" causes the local logon to go directly to a normal full logon
from the local screen, leaving system security intact.
               Date Display Format (0= DOS Default)

This sets the order of the fields in the date display when online.

0 = default to the DOS country code value.
1 = USA format (DD/MM/YY)
2 = European Format (MM/DD/YY)
3 = Japanese format (YY/DD/MM)
               Date Separator Character (0=Default)

This is the letter that will be used online to separate the date
display fields.  A 0 will use the DOS country code default.
               Time Separator Character (0=Default)

This is the character that TBBS will use online to separate the
time display fields. A 0 here will use the DOS country code
default.
                  Allow ANSI as option in system

The normal setting of this option is YES.  If you set this option
to NO, then TBBS will act as if all users have their ANSI option
set to NO at all times, regardless of their configuration.
                  Allow Graphics chars in system

The normal setting of this option is YES. If you set this option
to NO, the TBBS will act as if all users have their Graphics
option set to NO at all times, regardless of their configuration.
                   Default Multiple LNG to "A"

This setting determines whether a user will be met with a menu
to select his language as the first logon item when multiple
languages are defined (using the /L option).  If this option is
set to YES, then no language menu is presented, and all users
begin their logon using language "A".  If this option is set to
NO, then a menu of available languages is presented as the
first logon item.
                    # days to expire password

This setting indicates how many days TBBS should allow a user to
use a password before it indicates that the password should be
changed.  A zero here shuts this option off.

If this option is set to 30, for example, then 30 days after a
user changes his logon password TBBS will begin to prompt him
to change his password to a new one.
                        Inactivity timeout

The number for the number of minutes the system should wait
without user input.  At the end of this amount of time, the
system will warn a user, "One more minute without input and you
will be disconnected!".  TBBS will halt the modem carrier signal
one minute later, if there has been no input.  An entry of 0 here
will disable the inactivity timeout feature. The maximum value
which may be used is 255 minutes.
               XOFF requires XON (NO=PC-DOS style)

This option determines how a user's computer terminal and your
host terminal will conduct flow control of characters between
them. In both cases, an XOFF (Also called ^S or CHR$(19)) will
halt TBBS character transmission.

"No" here allows any character typed by the user will re-start
output which is how PC-DOS operates from its keyboard.

"Yes" here requires receipt of an XON ( also called ^Q or
CHR$(17)) to resume character flow, and any other character is
ignored (which is how many mainframe computers operate.)
             Bump Unregistered User if A3 = --------

If you mark any flags here with an "X" and a user logs on who
has any corresponding A3 flag set in his userlog entry (set by
ULEDIT or by the A3 line flags in CEDIT), AND does NOT have the
"Full Access" flag (F) set in his userlog entry (set by ULEDIT)
then the user will not be allowed to log on. He will be logged
off with a message, or if the file A3BUMP.TXT is present on the
disk, that file will be displayed to him as he is logged off.
This option is generally used in conjunction with the A3 line
flags (see Port OPTIONS) to allow unregistered users only on
certain phone lines.
                      Change DAYFILE OPTIONS

These options control the logging of information about how your
system is being used.
                 Day File Route = (0, 1, 2 or 3)

This option determines how the system logs user activity.  TBBS
creates a file named DAYFILE.LST, making entries in it for each
user access.

0 = suppress all logging.  The remainder of the options in this
    section have no meaning if Mode 0 is selected.

1 = Send the DAYFILE.LST information to only your system printer.

2 = Send DAYFILE.LST to only an ASCII file on a disk for your
    later PRINT or LIST reading.

3 = Send DAYFILE.LST to both the printer and a disk file.
                           Dayfile Path

Enter here the drive and path you wish the DAYFILE.LST file to be
placed on if you have selected option 2 or 3 for Dayfile routing.
                    Divider bar between calls

Setting this option to YES will cause a divider bar to be printed
between each call on your log. Setting it to NO will suppress
this bar to save disk storage or paper. In multi-line this option
is not very practical as lines are "interlaced" as each caller
logs on or off of each line.
                 Time Stamp All Dayfile Entries

Setting this option to YES will cause every entry in the dayfile
log (DAYFILE.LST) to be prefixed with a date/time stamp.

Note:  This will cause your dayfile to be MUCH LARGER than it
is with this option off.  Thus you should not set this option
to YES unless you require the extra information.
                       Log Menu File Loads

This option determines whether TBBS will write to DAYFILE.LST
when menus are called up (loaded) by a user.
                       Log Data File Reads

This option determines whether TBBS will write to DAYFILE.LST
what data files are read or downloaded by a user.
                    Log Option Module Entries

This option determines whether TBBS will write to DAYFILE.LST
a log entry showing each time an option module is entered by
a user.  This entry will show the module entry type and the
Opt Data field of the call.
                   Log failed Password attempts

Setting this option to YES will cause any invalid passwords
entered by callers at logon to be printed on the DAYFILE.LST log.
This can aid in determining if someone is "hacking" your system
for passwords.
                      Log Changed Passwords

Setting this option to YES will cause all new passwords to be
logged when using the change password command.
                 Log System Startup and Shutdown

Setting this option to YES will cause TBBS to make an entry in the 
DAYFILE.LST log each time the system is started up or shuts down.
                Add/Change/Delete Internal Events

This section allows you to Add, Change, or Delete TBBS Internal
Events.  Internal Events are used to change the operation of menu
items based on the time of day and day of the week. During the
specified interval of an internal event, the specified flags are
temporarily "forced" to the states shown for all callers. This
overrides the setting of these flags in their userlog, but does
not permanently change them.  This allows you to make temporary,
time dependent, changes to menus for special effects.
                      Start Time & Stop Time

These indicate the starting and ending time of an internal event.

If the start time and stop time are the same, then the event is
assumed to be in effect for the entire 24 hours of each day
specified.

If the start time is higher than the stop time, then the event
runs "around Midnight".

Example: Start time is 22:00 and Stop time is 09:00.  Then 
on the day(s) specified the event is "active" from midnight
until 9am and from 10pm to midnight.
                         Days of the Week

This is a list of the days of each week that this internal event
will take place.  Specify days with three letter abbreviations
as follows:

Sat  Sun  Mon  Tue  Wed  Thu  Fri

You may use the word ALL to indicate all days.  If ALL is
followed by specific days then these are the days the event
does NOT run.  Example:

All,Sat,Sun

Means all days except Saturday and Sunday.
                           Flag Changes

These flags fields indicate the changes which will be temporarily
forced during the internal event.  Any flag marked here with
either a "-" or a "." will be forced to that condition during the
internal event.  Note:  These changes are NOT written to the
user's USERLOG record, they only occur internally during the
specified time of the event.
                Add/Change/Delete EXTERNAL EVENTS

External events are the method by which you tell TBBS to perform
system maintenance activities automatically.  They indicate that
some maintenance process is to take place "externally" to TBBS
itself.  So TBBS is to shut down at the indicated time and exit
to the RUNBBS.BAT file with a code indicating what maintenance 
process is to be performed.
                      Event Errorlevel code

Enter the errorlevel you want returned to DOS for the event.

Note: Errorlevel 0 is used by TBBS for a normal exit via the <F3>
key, and Errorlevel 1 is used to indicate a Type 21 exit to DOS
while online.  In general it is advisable to use events in the
area of 20 and higher to avoid conflicts.
                     Event Start Time (hh:mm)

Enter the hour and minute you wish the event to occur in 24 hour
format. 
                      Days of week for event

This is a list of the days of each week that this external event
will take place.  Specify days with three letter abbreviations
as follows:

Sat  Sun  Mon  Tue  Wed  Thu  Fri

You may use the word ALL to indicate all days.  If ALL is
followed by specific days then these are the days the event
does NOT run.  Example:

All,Sat,Sun

Means all days except Saturday and Sunday.
                  Ghost Events

This menu entry allows you to edit your ghost events.

Ghost Events allow automatic timed execution of TBBS commands.
                  Ghost Event Line Number

This selects either the specific line to run a ghost event or
254 to run on any available GHOST line, or 255 to run on any
available modem line.  Note:  Ghost tasks will not run on
line 0.
                     Event Start Time (hh:mm)

Enter the hour and minute you wish the event to occur in 24 hour
format. 
                      Days of week for event

This is a list of the days of each week that this ghost event
will take place.  Specify days with three letter abbreviations
as follows:

Sat  Sun  Mon  Tue  Wed  Thu  Fri

You may use the word ALL to indicate all days.  If ALL is
followed by specific days then these are the days the event
does NOT run.  Example:

All,Sat,Sun

Means all days except Saturday and Sunday.
                  Ghost Event Type

This is the TYPE= menu command that the ghost event will use.
A ghost event simulates a normal TBBS menu entry and thus you
should use the same type codes as you would use in MEDIT or SDL.
                  Ghost Event Opt Data

This is the Opt Dat which goes with your ghost event TYPE - code.
Enter any required Opt Data here.
                        Port Definitions

This selection allows you to Add, Change, or Delete Com Port
definitions.  Adding a com port here is how you add a line
to your TBBS system.  This allows more users to use the system
at the same time (up to the limit of your TBBS version).
               Add/Change/Delete Port Definitions

This menu is where you add or delete modem definitions.  Use the
INS key to add a new definition at the end.  Use the DEL key to
delete the definition you currently have selected on this menu.

To change a port definition, select the line you wish to modify
and then press Enter.
                       Modem Type and Name

You may select most of your port configuration by entering the
name of your modem here.  TBBS will look the name up in its list
of known configurations.  If you don't know the full entry, you
may enter the first few characters of the modem maker's name and
press return.  TBBS will show you the menu of choices closest to
the text you enter.  Select the proper setup and press enter.

Note:  If this is a Loadable Driver Line, the first characters of
this field define the driver type.  For a TIPX line, for example,
this field must begin with TIPX:
                        PORT Base Address

This option specifies the hardware for this TBBS line.  COM1 and
COM2 are standardized, so you may type 1 or 2 for these ports.
For other COM port placement you will need to enter the 3 or 4
digit hexadecimal port address here. There are two special
letters you may enter here as well to define non-serial ports:

 G - Sets Ghost Line

 L - Sets Loadable Driver Line (e.g. TIPX).  For this type of
     line the first characters of the MODEM NAME parameter
     indicate the type of loadable driver.  For example a
     TIPX line's Modem Name must begin with TIPX:
                             PORT IRQ

This setting identifies the interrupt this COM port is connected
to.  It must be either 3 or 4.
                       Hard Wired Terminal

This setting indicates that this line is not connected to any
form of switched network or modem, but instead is connected
directly to a computer terminal by means of a null modem cable.
This option should be used with one of the fixed speed Types
or with the AutoBaud type. When a line is marked as being hard
wired, it will require a single <CR> on fixed speed lines (and
up to 3 on an autobaud line) to log on. After logoff, you will
again need to press the <CR> key to re-logon.

Hard wired lines will not time out due to inactivity, but all
total time limits are still enforced. Hard wired lines may 
have the terminal powered down or disconnected at any time
without interfering with system operation or shutdown.
                           Half Duplex

Setting this option to Y tells TBBS not to echo input from the
line.  It will stop all echo except for an added <LF> after <CR>
if the terminal is configured to require it.  Note: This option
renders chat modes inoperative on this line.

The normal setting is N.
                         Only 7 Bit data

Setting this option to Y tells TBBS that this line cannot handle
8 bit data even if a user logs on who is configured for 8 bit
data (Graphics = Yes).  This allows a caller to configure for
graphics where the line will allow it, and TBBS will automatic-
ally convert graphics to ASCII when the line will not support
8 bit data or IBM graphics.

The normal setting is N.
                       RTS/CTS Flow Control

Setting this option to Y will tell TBBS to stop output to the
line if the CTS signal to this port is lowered.  It also will
tell TBBS to use the RTS signal to flow control input to TBBS
(instead of XOFF/XON flow control).  If carrier detect is lost on
this line then RTS/CTS flow control will be overridden until
carrier detect re-appears. This option is for buffered operation
where the port speed selected cannot be sustained on a continuous
basis.

This option is set correctly for modems selected by name.
                       Indicate Line by A3

This option allows you to indicate an A3 flag or flags to be set
on to indicate which line (or group of lines) the caller is on.
This flag may then be keyed to menus to make some lines operate
differently than others. When a caller logs on, all possible A3
flags which may be set for any line (as defined by this parameter
in all lines combined) are first cleared in the user's A3 set-
ting. Then the flag (or flags) marked here are set permanently
in the caller's userlog A3 entry.

This may also be used in conjunction with the A3 Bump flag
setting to restrict certain lines to only users who have
"Full Access" (F) set in their userlog entry.
                     300 Baud Start/Stop Time

For 110, 150, 300, and 600Bps calls if both start and stop time
are set to 00:00, then calls at these speeds are not restricted.
If both times are set to the same time, and this time is not
00:00, then calls at these speeds are never allowed. If Start and
Stop Time are different, then calls at these speeds will be
allowed between the two times and disallowed the rest of the day.
If Start Time is greater than Stop time, it is presumed that
calls at this speed are allowed "around midnight".

If a call is received when it is not allowed, a message is printed 
to the caller and he is disconnected. If you wish to send
him a special message, create a file named BADlspd.TXT in
which you place your message. lspd = 110, 150, 300, or 600.
                    1200 Baud Start/Stop Time

For 1200 Bps calls if both start and stop time are set to 00:00,
then calls at these speeds are not restricted.  If both times are
set to the same time, and this time is not 00:00, then calls at
this speed are never allowed. If Start and Stop Time are differ-
ent, then calls at these speeds will be allowed between the two
times and disallowed the rest of the day.  If Start Time is
greater than Stop time, it is presumed that calls at this speed
are allowed "around midnight".

If a call is received when it is not allowed, a message is printed 
to the caller and he is disconnected. If you wish to send
him a special message, create a file named BAD1200.TXT in
which you place your message.
                    2400 Baud Start/Stop Time

For 2400 Bps calls if both start and stop time are set to 00:00,
then calls at these speeds are not restricted.  If both times are
set to the same time, and this time is not 00:00, then calls at
this speed are never allowed. If Start and Stop Time are differ-
ent, then calls at these speeds will be allowed between the two
times and disallowed the rest of the day.  If Start Time is
greater than Stop time, it is presumed that calls at this speed
are allowed "around midnight".

If a call is received when it is not allowed, a message is printed 
to the caller and he is disconnected. If you wish to send
him a special message, create a file named BAD2400.TXT in
which you place your message.
                    9600 Baud Start/Stop Time

For 4800, 9600, 19.2k, and 38.4k calls if both start and stop
time are set to 00:00, calls at these speeds are not restricted.
If both times are set to the same time, and this time is not
00:00, then calls at these speeds are never allowed. If Start and
Stop Time are different, then calls at these speeds will be
allowed between the two times and disallowed the rest of the day.
If Start Time is greater than Stop time, it is presumed that
calls at this speed are allowed "around midnight".

If a call is received when it is not allowed, a message is printed 
to the caller and he is disconnected. If you wish to send
him a special message, create a file named BADlspd.TXT in
which you place your message. lspd = BPS rate.
                  Indicate Bps by A4 = --------

These options allow you to build a system which changes its menus
based on the speed of the caller. You can have the system mark
any A4 flags you wish for each speed. The system operates as
follows if any of the flags are marked:

When the call is connected, all flags marked in any of these four
settings on all lines are reset to "." and then the flags marked
for the specified speed are set to "X" and recorded in the user's
userlog entry.
                    Select Modem Setup By Name

Move the cursor bar to the brand name of the modem or fixed line
setup you have connected to this port.  Press return and all of
the parameters will be set correctly for that type of modem.

You will be given any further instructions in the form of a
notes window when you make the selection.
                     Modem Installation Notes

You must follow any instructions given in the notes box or your
modem will not operate properly with TBBS.  You may use the arrow
keys and the Page Up and Page Down keys to read extended notes if
they don't all fit in the display window.  The indicator at the
right shows where you are in the notes display.
                       Modem Handling Type

This option selects the type of modem, network interface, or non-
modem line you have connected to this port. It also selects the
speed detection method, and the line handling which is used.

Type 0 = Fixed Speed, CD and DTR handling method
Type 1 = Hayes single code result format
Type 2 = Bell 212A 300/1200 Pin 22 speed detect
Type 3 = Hayes multi-part result code format
Type 4 = AutoBaud detect, CD & DTR handling method
Type 5 = Hayes Single code, automatic locks Reliable Codes and
         floats DTE rate on Normal codes
                          DTE Port Speed

This option sets the speed the port is initialized to.  If the
"Locked" option is set, this is the only speed to be used.
Otherwise, this is the speed the init string is sent to the
modem at, and where TBBS "idles" the modem.

Caution! PC/XT model computers cannot reliably handle 19,200bps 
or 38,400 interfaces. You must have an 80286 or faster machine
to handle this speed. If you attempt to use a 19,200 or 38,400
interface on an 8088 or 8086 type of computer you will likely
experience data loss and unreliable operation.  All CPUs
will require a 16550 UART to reliably handle 38,400bps.
                     Port Automatic or Locked

Automatic = TBBS will change port baud rates to follow the speed
            of the connecting modem.

Locked    = TBBS will always leave the DTE port speed set to the
            setting in "Speed".  Use this option when a buffered
            link or modem is used, and you don't want TBBS to
            change the computer-to-modem speeds for lower speed
            connections.

This option is set correctly when you select a modem from the
list of modes by name.
                       Send ATZ before INIT

Setting this option to Y will cause TBBS to send the string ATZ
to reset a smartmodem before it issues the INIT string. Some
modems are more reliable in 24 hour use if this option is set to
YES, while others are much more reliable if this option is set to
NO.

This option is set correctly for a modem selected by name.
                   Modem PreConditioning String

Any character string you enter here will be sent to your modem
when you use the F2=Modem setup option.  It is intended to set
your modem's one time software switches.  The Preconditioning
string is a vitally important part of proper smartmodem operation
so do not modify it without a complete understanding of what it
is doing.  The Preconditioning string for this modem will be
automatically placed here when you select a modem by name.

If the modem requires a pre-conditioning string you must use
CEDIT to send it to the modem by pressing F2 twice from the
line screen.  If you don't the modem won't work correctly
with TBBS.
                        Modem INIT String

Any character string you enter here will be sent to your modem
when TBBS is loaded, and whenever the line is reset.  The INIT
string is a vitally important part of proper smartmodem operation
so do not modify it without a complete understanding of what it
is doing.

The INIT string for all modems eSoft has tested will be automat-
ically placed here when you select the modem from the menu.
                Normal Mode Result Code Definition

Place here a list of modem result codes which indicate the modem
has connected in a normal mode without any error correction.  If
more than one result code is possible at a given speed, use the
vertical bar (|) to separate them.  Example:  A modem can give
either a 9 or a 10 for a 2400 baud connect.  Then you would enter
the following:

2400= 9|10

All result codes must total 200 characters maximum.
               Reliable Mode Result Code Definition

Place here a list of modem result codes which indicate the modem
has connected in a reliable mode with error correction.  If more
than one result code is possible at a given speed, use the 
vertical bar (|) to separate them.  Example:  A modem can give
either a 21 or a 31 for a 2400 baud connect.  Then you would enter
the following:

2400= 9|10

All result codes must total 200 characters maximum.

Note: If TYPE is 5, these codes indicate the CARRIER connect
speed portion of the multi-stage result code sequence.
              Save User Defined Modem Name (UDEF)

You have asked to save your current customized modem definition
as a user defined modem name.  If you do so, this definition will
appear on the modem selection menu for your future use.  If you
name this definition the same as one which eSoft supplied, then
your definition will be used for that name instead of the eSoft
supplied definition.  If you change the name to a new name, then
you can create new definitions for your personal use.  If you
press ESC here, this definition will not be saved.

Note: User modem definitions will show an asterisk in front
of their name on the modem menu.  You can delete them by
pressing the <Del> key when the cursor is on that name on
the modem selection menu.
                 Select Version of Modem Setup

The type of modem you have selected can be set up in more than
one way.  This may be dependent on ROM revisions of firmware in
the modem, or to allow you to select the port speed on high
speed modems.

Position the selection bar on the version you want to install
and then press Enter to select that version for setup.
                   Multi-Port Hardware Options

This option screen tells TBBS how to handle the interrupts on its
communications ports.  Due to hardware restrictions on the PC/AT
bus (ISA bus), only one normal serial port may connect to an
interrupt. Since there are only two communications interrupts
(IRQ3 and IRQ4) you must use specially constructed multi-port
cards to connect more than two serial ports to your computer.

This screen is used to tell TBBS what kind of multi-port card
you are using and how it may access it.
Polled - This is the generic handling method, and will work with
         any serial port combination you can connect in hardware.
         Balance your ports evenly between interrupts with half
         on each IRQ for the minimum CPU impact in Polled mode.

Efficient - If you set the method to efficient, you MUST define 
         the type of multi-port board(s) you have installed.
         This tells TBBS the status register type, status port
         address, and which status ports represent which lines.
         Note: You must define the lines in CEDIT in the same
         order as you have defined the multi-port boards here.
         The first card first line is line 1.  Define all lines
         on that card in order, then go to line 1 of the
         next card etc. See the Installation section
         (Chapter 1) for details.
                       Multi-Port Card Type

This section defines the type of multi-port card you are using so
that TBBS may handle its status register properly.  To define
more than one card of the same type on an interrupt, place the
cursor on the "blackout" box below the currently defined board
and press the space bar.  The board type, # of lines, and status
port address of the board above will be copied down to add a
board. Then edit the # of lines, and status port adr as needed.

To delete added boards for an interrupt, place the cursor on the
first board you wish to delete and press the space bar. That
board and all below it will be deleted.
                        # of Lines on Card

Set to the number of ports the board can handle (even if you are
not using them all now).  For PC/AT Digiboards, this is always
ALL, for others press space bar to set this field to 4, 8, or
16 lines depending on which type of multi-port card each is.
                       Status Port Address

Here you must enter the I/O address of the board's status port.
If the status port has more than one I/O address, always enter
the lowest number.
                       Change LOGON OPTIONS

This screen allows you to customize the appearance and operation
of the logon process.

Note:  These settings are the default system wide settings.  They
may be overridden on an individual line if you set up a custom
logon format for that line.
                           Logon Method

This option determines how your TBBS handles users logging on.

Mode 0 = Obsolete.  Present for compatibility with older versions
         of TBBS only.

Mode 1 = First Name, Last Name asked for separately.

Mode 2 = Full Name.

Mode 3 = User ID.
                         Allow New Users

Setting this parameter to NO will disallow new users entirely.
If a user attempts to log on who is not already in the
USERLOG.BBS file, he will be logged off with a message. If you
have specified the NEWUSER.TXT file is present below, then that
file will be displayed to him instead of the message before he is
hung up on. In this mode new users must be added with ULEDIT by
the SYSOP to be allowed on the system. Setting this option to YES
will allow new users to be automatically added to the userlog
with the default new user settings specified in the "New User
Defaults" screen.
                      Security Echo Password

This option determines whether the characters of a logon password
can be read by a user at time of entry.  The NO mode will echo
the entry characters from TBBS back to the user, thereby allowing
the user to correct typographical errors...but also allowing
anyone near the user's terminal to see the password.  The YES
mode will echo back to the user a "*" for each character of the
password, so the user (and anyone nearby) does not see the actual
character entered. This can cause confusion to a user (particu-
larly between upper and lower case character entries), but TBBS
will allow the user three tries at getting the entry correct.
                  Request New Caller's Location

Setting this option to YES will cause TBBS to ask a new caller
for his location. This will be added to his userlog entry.  Also
the location will be displayed at logon and in the previous
user's listing.  If this option is set to NO, TBBS will not keep
track of a caller's location or display it at logon.
              Do ENQ auto-logon poll at first prompt

Setting this option to YES will cause TBBS to send the ENQ
character at the first logon prompt to trigger the "here is"
function on the calling terminal for automatic logon.  If you
don't wish this feature, set this option to NO.
                  Request New Caller's Password

Setting this option to YES will cause TBBS to ask a new caller to
enter a password. This will be added to his userlog entry.  This
option should be used if you want new users to supply their own
passwords when TBBS creates a userlog record for them.  If this
option is set to NO, a new user will not have a password assigned
unless you enter one in ULEDIT.
                      Time Limit for Log On

This is the number of minutes that TBBS will allow a caller
(from the time the line connects) to complete the logon process.

If he does not complete logon in this time TBBS disconnects the
line.

Setting this limit to 0 means that logon has no time limit.

The maximum is 60 minutes.
                     Minimum Length for Password

This option tells TBBS that when it is accepting a new password
from a caller, that it must be a minimum of this many characters.
This limit applies either for a new caller selecting a password
or for the "change password" command.

The minimum length may be from 0 to 8 characters.  0 means that
a password is not required, and the user may elect to have none.
                      SYSOP ID at First Name

This entry has no function unless you are using Logon Method 1.
In that case this ID allows you to supply a single response at
the "First name?" prompt to log on as SYSOP (since SYSOP has no
last name). To do so the SYSOP should enter this password in
response to the "First Name ?" prompt at logon to indicate that
he wishes to log on remotely as SYSOP.

Since this ID just serves as the First Name/Last Name for the
SYSOP logon, TBBS will also check for a password in the SYSOP's
User Log entry and, if one is found, ask for it too.
                     Verify Caller's Location

If this option is set to YES, TBBS will ask a caller to verify
his location is correct at logon.  If he answers no, the logon
procedure will be restarted.  This allows a last minute way for
a caller to back out of an error in logging on.  Setting this
option to NO will suppress this verification step.
                     ANSI Poll Timing

This option controls the automatic polling for ANSI capability
at logon.  There are four settings:

DISABLED - No ANSI poll will be done.
NORMAL   - ANSI polling with a normal wait for response.
RELAXED  - ANSI polling with an extended wait for response.
VRY LONG - ANSI polling with a super extended wait for response.

Press the first letter of the setting you want to select it.
                    Wait Msg on Userlog Search

This option controls whether or not a "Searching Userlog..."
message is printed when TBBS is looking up names in its log.
With the ISAM Userlog search method used in TBBS, this search
rarely takes over 1 second even on floppy disks, however we
have left this option in for compatibility.
                Report Waiting Messages at Logon

TBBS maintains a list of messages which have been sent to a
caller but which have not yet been read.  This list is known as
the message waiting chain.  This option determines whether TBBS
will automatically notify a caller of waiting messages at logon
without any action on his part.

A YES here will notify a caller at logon of any waiting messages.

A No here will suppress that notification.
                 Wait Msg on Message Base Search

This option controls whether or not a "Searching Message Base"
message is printed when TBBS is checking for personal messages at
logon.  The speed and size of your system determine the need for
this.
                Allow "Read Now" after Report

This option controls whether the caller is given the option to
read any waiting messages immediately after the message waiting
report is given.

A YES here allows the caller to read waiting messages immediately.

A NO here will simply list and mark the waiting messages. The
caller will have to use a menu read option to access them.
               Display "you have read thru" message

Controls whether this message is displayed after a user logs on.
               Display "current last msg #" message

Controls whether this message is displayed after a user logs on.
                 Display Date & Time of Last Logon 

Controls whether the date and time of the last logon for the user
is displayed when the logon is verified.
            Display "you have called x times" message

Controls whether this message is displayed after a user logs on.
                Display Active Combined Board list

Controls whether a list of the combined boards the caller is
qualified to access is displayed after logon.
               Display "you are caller # x" message 

Controls whether this message is displayed after a user logs on.
                Extended Logon Banner File Name

This option allows you to set the name of the file which will be
used as an extended logon banner.  Normally this file is named
SIGNON1.TXT but you may choose any name you wish.

By changing this name in a custom logon for a line you can give
a line (or group of lines) a different logon banner from the
rest of the system.
                  Extended header (SIGNON1.TXT)

The normal CEDIT text buffer for your system's logon Greeting is
255 characters. Should you have need for a longer text, answer
YES here.  Then write your Greeting Text in an ASCII file named
SIGNON1.TXT.  The system will select that file for display, after
it displays the Greeting Text you write in CEDIT.  If you answer 
NO only your CEDIT Greeting Text will be displayed before
beginning actual logon procedures.
                  Allow "S" abort of SIGNON1.TXT

This options allows you to indicate if the display of SIGNON1.TXT
may be aborted by pressing the "S" key or the ^C key.  If you 
answer YES here then that file display may be aborted, if you
answer NO it may not be.
                      Logon News File Name

This option allows you to set the name of the file which will be
used as the logon news file.  Normally this file is named
SIGNON2.TXT but you may choose any name you wish.

By changing this name in a custom logon for a line you can give
a line (or group of lines) a different logon news file from the
rest of the system.
                     News file (SIGNON2.TXT)

By answering YES here, you may have your system display a "news"
file to each user, after logon, but prior to the top menu.  The
news file, written in ASCII, must be named SIGNON2.TXT.
Answering NO will omit that function. A new user will see this
file followed by the NEWUSER.TXT file (if indicated below).
                  Allow "S" abort of SIGNON2.TXT

This options allows you to indicate if the display of SIGNON2.TXT
may be aborted by pressing the "S" key or the ^C key.  If you 
answer YES here then that file display may be aborted, if you
answer NO it may not be.
                     See News file once only

Used with above option, this allows you to decide whether the
SIGNON2.TXT news file is shown only once (YES) to a user as they
logon, or every time they logon. The SIGNON2.TXT could also be
an advertisement for the system or its sponsor, in which case
your answer could be NO and the ad would appear at each logon.
(You can use a function of ULEDIT, the User Log editor, to reset
the display flags in your user file so that when you change the
SIGNON2.TXT, the new file will be again shown to each user.)
                New user Instruction File Name

This option allows you to set the name of the file which will be
used as the New user Instruction file.  Normally this file is
named NEWUSER.TXT but you may choose any name you wish.

By changing this name in a custom logon for a line you can give
a line (or group of lines) a different new user instruction file
from the rest of the system.
                   New User Info (NEWUSER.TXT)

If you answer YES to this option, the text file you write and
name, "NEWUSER.TXT" will be shown at logon to each user whose
name is not presently in your system's User Log. NO will tell
your TBBS to skip the file. This file cannot be aborted during
its display.
                Extended Logoff Banner File Name

This option allows you to set the name of the file which will be
used as an extended logoff banner.  Normally this file is named
SIGNOFF.TXT but you may choose any name you wish.

By changing this name in a custom logon for a line you can give
a line (or group of lines) a different logoff banner from the
rest of the system.
              Extended Logoff Banner (SIGNOFF.TXT)

If you answer YES to this option, the text file you write and
name, "SIGNOFF.TXT" will be shown at logon to each user when
they log off of the system.  NO will tell your TBBS to skip this
file. This file can always be aborted during its display.

This file is displayed before the logoff time summary.  This
summary does not clear screen if this file is selected.  The
order of display at logoff if this file is selected is:

                  Allow "S" abort of SIGNOFF.TXT

This options allows you to indicate if the display of SIGNOFF.TXT
may be aborted by pressing the "S" key or the ^C key.  If you 
answer YES here then that file display may be aborted, if you
answer NO it may not be.
                     Change NEW USER DEFAULTS

If you allow new users to be self-defined to the system, these
options specify what authorization such a new user has placed in
his userlog when he first logs on the system.
 
If your system is set to "No New Users" on all lines, then these
options have no meaning except to configure the display of the
system before a user has logged on.
                        New User Privilege

This is the privilege level, 0 to 255, a new user is given on the
first call.  Note: 255 and 254 are the SYSOP or co-SYSOP level.
                   New User Authorization Flags

A1, A2, A3, and A4 are the authorization "flags" which a new user
will be given on the first call.  These flags operate independ-
ently of each other as explained in Chapter 2 under security and
Authorization. 
                  Initial Billing Class 0 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 0 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  Billing Class 0
covers all time the user is logged on to the system for any
reason.  It includes time spent in all other Billing classes as
well as Billing class 0 time.  It represents an absolute limit
on the total number of minutes the user may access the system
before he is restricted from access.
                  Initial Billing Class 5 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 5 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 5.
                         Call Time Limit

This is the amount of time, in minutes, you allow a new user to
access your TBBS before a mandatory disconnect. The user will
receive a Two minute and also a One Minute Warning before being
disconnected. 

Setting this to 0 allows unlimited use of the system and 255
minutes is the maximum setting.
                  Initial Billing Class 1 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 1 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 1.
                  Initial Billing Class 6 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 6 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 6.
                          Download Limit

This is the number of bytes of data a new user may download from
the system in a 24 hour period. A setting of 0 bytes here allows 
unlimited downloading, so to effectively disallow any
downloading set this value to 1.

Maximum value is 99,999,999 bytes.
                  Initial Billing Class 2 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 2 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 2.
                  Initial Billing Class 7 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 7 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 7.
                        Minutes/Day Limit

This sets the total number of minutes the new user can use in a
24 hour period. When this amount of time has been used in one
day, he cannot log on again until the next day. A 0 here means
that there is no limit to amount of time used in a 24 hour 
period.

The maximum number permissible here is 1440 which is also 
effectively no limit as it allows 24 hours of use every 24 hours.
                  Initial Billing Class 3 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 3 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 3.
                  Initial Billing Class 8 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 8 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 8.
                         Calls/Day Limit

This sets the number of calls a new user may place to the system
in a 24 hour period. A 0 here means that there is no limit, and
255 is the maximum number possible.
                  Initial Billing Class 4 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 4 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 4.
                  Initial Billing Class 9 Limits

This is the time limit for Billing Class 9 which is assigned to a
new user when TBBS defines the USERLOG record.  This limit will
restrict the amount of time a user may spend in menus which are
assigned a Billing Class of 9.
                    Make New User (I)nvisible

This setting indicates whether the (I)nvisible flag will be set
in a new user's USERLOG entry when TBBS creates it.  A YES here
will set the flag, while a NO will leave the flag reset.

If the (I)nvisible flag is set, new user will not show in the
"most recent callers" listing.
                    Expire New Users in x Days

If this field is set to a value other than zero, TBBS will set an
expiration date for new users which is the specified number of
days past the date the user first logs onto your system.  If this
value is zero, no expiration date will be set for a new user.
                    Force Default Page Length

If this setting is YES, then a new caller is not asked if he
wants a page pause, and what length a page is on his terminal.
Instead, TBBS forces that length the the Page Length specified
below.

If this setting is NO, then TBBS asks the user his preference
about page length and page pauses.
                       Default Screen Width

If this field is set to a value other than zero, TBBS will not
ask a user how many characters per line is on his CRT screen.
Instead, this value will be assumed.   For example, if all of
your callers have 80 column screens, you may set this value to
80 and new users won't be asked how wide their screen is.
                      Default page Length

This is the default page length a new user is presumed to have
if the above question (Force Default Page Length) is set to YES.

A 0 here means the user has no page pauses, otherwise the value
is the number of lines which comprise a display page for the
new user by default.
                   Force Default Terminal Config

If this value is set to YES, then the terminal configuration you
define here will be set for all new users to your TBBS.  This
means that they won't be asked to choose their terminal type from
the menu of defined terminal types, but will have ANSI, GRAPHICS,
Line Feeds, and Clear Screen codes set from this screen without
asking.  If NO is set here, a user is asked about his terminal.

This makes configuration easier for new users who indeed have the
default configuration, but it MAY MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOME
USERS TO EVER USE YOUR SYSTEM SUCCESSFULLY!  Be sure all users
can survive any default you choose here.  To be a truly
universal system, set this option to NO.
                     Use Full Screen Editor

If this value is set to ASK, then the user will be asked each
time a message is entered whether to use the Full Screen Editor
or the Line Editor.  If this is set to YES, the user will always
be placed in the Full Screen Editor, and if this is set to NO,
the user will always be placed in the Line Editor.

Note: If the user does not have ANSI=Y in his terminal profile,
then this parameter will have no effect as only the Line Editor
can be used in non-ANSI mode.  

This setting may be changed by the user through a menu entry
which activates the change user profile command.
                           ANSI Codes

If you set TBBS to force new user terminal configuration, this
is the setting for ANSI which will be used in the user's default
terminal profile.

This setting also determines whether TBBS will be allowed to
display ANSI codes in the SIGNON1.TXT file which is displayed
before a user's configuration is known.
                    Message Entry Prompt Style

This entry sets the new user's beginning message entry prompt
style.  The user may change this setting in his user profile
using the change profile menu command.  The valid settings are:

1 = Prompt during message entry is line number only

2 = Prompt is line number and bytes remaining in edit buffer

3 = Prompt is the single character ">"
                         IBM Graphics

If you set TBBS to force new user terminal configuration, this
is the setting for GRAPHICS which will be used in the user's
default terminal profile.

This setting also determines whether TBBS will be allowed to
display IBM Graphics characters in the SIGNON1.TXT file which is
displayed before a user's configuration is known.
                   Ask for Prepared Text

This entry sets the new user's beginning state of this option.

If this setting is YES, TBBS will ask the user if he wishes to
"Submit prepared text" on each message entry.  If this setting
is NO, then this prompt is skipped and manual message entry is
immediately selected.

This setting may be changed by the user through a menu entry
which activates the change user profile command.
                          Line Feeds

If the "Force Default Terminal Config" setting is YES, this is
the setting TBBS will put in a new user's configuration for the
Line Feed (LF) setting.

Some terminals, video or printer, need a line feed code following
a carriage return -- some don't. Y for yes, N for no.  If this is
wrong the terminal will either double space or write everything
on a single line.
                 New Message Pointer Method

The "New Message" pointer indicates which messages are "new" for
each user in each message area.  TBBS allows this pointer to be
maintained for each user in two ways:

1 - Set pointer past the highest message number the user has
    read, even if there are unread messages lower in the msg base.

2 - Set pointer to the lowest numbered message in the message
    board that the user has not yet read.

Method two insures that the "New" command never skips an
unread message, but many users find method 1 more natural.
                     Clear Screen Code

If the "Force Default Terminal Config" setting is YES, this is
the setting TBBS will put in a new user's configuration for the
CLS (Clear Screen) code sequence.

This sequence is expected to clear the remote screen, and is
completely dependent on the terminal emulation in use there.  For
most PC's, a 12,0,0,0,0,0 will clear the screen.  For a VT-100
emulation a 27,91,72,27,91,74 is required here.  If you don't
know (or have many different) terminals calling as new users you
can set this to 13,13,0,0,0,0 which will not clear screen but
will space between screens.
                Defining Terminal Characteristics

When you log on to a TBBS system for the first time, you are
asked to define your terminal so TBBS will know how to configure
its display output best for your calling terminal.  TBBS will
offer the caller a menu of various terminals from which you can
pick yours, if it is among them. This Terminal Definitions menu
is where the system stores the information for that menu.

You may define up to 25 terminals, and variations of their
settings, from which users may choose.   If you only define a
single entry here, then it is the default.
                          Terminal Name

This is the name, up to 12 characters, which your system will be
shown in the menu to users for their choice.
                         Number of Nulls

A null is blank code (00) which can be sent by your system after
each carriage return, to accommodate the slow terminal of a user.
This is rarely necessary for a video display.  However, users
who access your TBBS from a printer terminal may need nulls to
avoid losing transmitted characters while the carriage is moving
leftward across the printer. This definition option allows you to
provide them such a choice.
                           Clear Screen

Almost all video computer terminals have some special combination
of codes to clear the video display. TBBS allows up to six bytes
(listed in decimal here) as a code sequence to "clear screen."

There is considerable variation in what these codes can be.  You
need to have technical information on the terminal you want to
allow TBBS to emulate to fill in this code.
                            Line Feed

Some terminals, video or printer, need a line feed code following
a carriage return -- some don't. Y for yes, N for no.  If this is
wrong the terminal will either double space or write everything
on a single line.
                             U/C Only

TBBS accommodates upper and lower case easily. Some computer 
terminals, however, cannot. If you set this parameter to Y then
TBBS will force all output to upper case.
                            ANSI Cntl

This determines whether this terminal type should be able to
handle ANSI color and cursor positioning codes. This becomes
the "default" setting of this option when this terminal type is
selected.  The caller can change it if you provide the
reconfiguration command in a menu.
                            IBM Graph

This is the default setting for 8 bit data in and out if this
terminal type is selected.  As with ANSI, the user may change
this via the reconfigure command.
                   Change Message Board Options

These options control the operation of your system's message
boards.  Several of the details of operation may be configured
here to affect the format and operation of your TBBS message
system.
         Auto Delete on Standard Boards when NOT pausing

A Standard Board is a non-EMAIL board. Do you want to leave non-
private messages where they can be read by others, even after
the addressee has received them? A YES to this option will
prompt the addressee with, "Do you wish to delete this message?"

A NO will skip this prompt.
          Auto Reply on Standard Boards when NOT pausing

This option determines whether the recipient of a message is
prompted by TBBS to answer a message ("Do you wish to reply to
this message?") the FIRST time he reads it if he is reading
without pause.

A NO here will not prompt the caller in this fashion.
           Follow reply chains when not Pausing (Y/N/A)

When a user answers NO to the pause question, or if the Pause
request option above forces his answer to NO, then this option
controls the handling of reply chains during message retrieval.
If you set this parameter to ASK, then the user is asked for each
retrieve how he wishes to handle reply chains. If you set this
parameter to YES, then reply chains will always be followed on
retrieve, and if you set this parameter to NO, then reply chains
are ignored and messages will always be retrieved in strict
numerical sequence.
          Present Pause Request option on Message Reads

When a user chooses a Forward or Reverse Multiple read mode for a
message file, a YES to this option will have TBBS ask the user,
"Do you wish to pause after each message?" If the user keys Y,
the system will pause after each message, until the user keys
ENTER to continue. Setting this option at NO will scroll the
messages without pause, unless the user keys P to pause or S to
stop.

At the pause prompt a caller also is given the option of replying
to a message, Downloading any enclosed file, following
reply chains backwards or forwards, and optionally
forwarding or deleting the message.
          Allow <D>elete of owned messages when pausing

A YES to this option will add the <D>elete prompt to the user's
pause prompt line if he is either the sender or addressee of the
message.  This allows him to delete his own messages at any time.
This option only applies to standard message boards, as EMAIL
boards always give this prompt.
          Allow <F>wd of received messages when pausing

A yes on this option will cause the caller to have the <F>wd
option added to his pause prompt line if he is the addressee of
the message (and also has a Priv level greater than or equal to
the <F>wd priv set below). This will allow him to forward
messages sent to him to others, or to post them on another
message board.
          Ask "Msg has replies, Read Now?" when pausing

A yes on this option asks this question when there is a reply
chain, even though the <*>Replies prompt was given.  A no here
will suppress this question.
              Notify Logged On Users when msg sent

A YES here will send a message to any user who is logged on that
notifies him if a message has been sent or forwarded to him.  A
NO here will suppress this notification.  If you select the INV
setting here, then a user will be notified unless the message
was sent or forwarded by a user with the (I)nvisible flag set.
               Log number of times read on messages

Setting this option to YES will cause TBBS to maintain a record
of how many times each message has been read. On public messages
this count is displayed as part of the message header.  On
private messages this count is not displayed online.

Note: Turning this option on will increase the disk activity when
accessing the message base by about double, and may affect the
performance of the system noticeably. So it should be left at NO
unless you really want this option.
                Chain Logoff to MSG TO SYSOP write

Setting this option at YES will cause TBBS to terminate a call
from a user after a message is written to the "MSG TO SYSOP"
board. Setting it at NO will cause TBBS to return the user to
whatever menu preceded the "MSG TO SYSOP" entry routine.

Note: The MSG TO SYSOP board is recognized by the name text. It
may be in any combination of upper and lower case, but must be
spelled MSG TO SYSOP in order for this option to apply.
               Request Passwords on Public Messages

In order to prevent just anyone from deleting another's messages,
the delete message command verifies that the user knows the
message password before allowing anyone other than the sender or
recipient of a message to delete it. To support this, a password
is requested for each public message when it is entered. However,
if you set up your system without using the delete message
command, then asking for this password serves no function. If
this is the case, setting this parameter to NO will suppress
requesting passwords on public messages.
             Can Sender Delete msgs from Cubbyhole

A YES here will allow the sender of a message to delete all of
the copies of his message that were placed in cubbyholes when
he deletes a message.  A NO here means that only the SYSOP can
delete copies of a message from cubbyholes globally.
               Maximum Message Capacity (100-60000)

This option tells TBBS how much message index table space to
allocate for messages, and sets an upper limit on total messages
which may be online at once. To calculate memory required,
multiply this number by N bytes/message. N=6+INT((L+3)/4)
Add 4 bytes to N if you have any topic boards defined.  If
you have 5 lines and one or more topic boards defined then
N=6+INT((5+3)/4)+4 or 12 bytes/msg.  This memory will be placed
in EMS in 16k chunks if there is not enough 640k available.
             Maximum Online Message Size (2048-9999)

This option tells TBBS how large a message entry buffer to
allocate. This in turn sets the maximum size a message which is
entered online may be.
                  [d:][\path] for enclosed files

This parameter determines where files which are enclosed in
messages are placed. These files will all be named EMnnnnn where
nnnnn is the number of the message in which the file is
enclosed. MFSQZ renumber will adjust the file names correctly if
the message base is renumbered.
                   Defining Your Message Boards

You may establish as many as 63 separate message boards, and TBBS
will keep track of each of them. In general you may name them
anything you wish. There are only two "reserved names". These are
MSG TO SYSOP (used to activate the Chain logoff to write feature,
and pre-address responses to SYSOP) and NET MAIL (used as the
Network mail area if the TBBS Net mail option is installed). All
variations of upper and lower case on these names activate their
special features.  You determine the name of each Message Board.

When you create your command menus for message boards, your Menu
Control File Opt Data field refers to these message boards by the
name you define here.
                        Message Board Name

This the name which must be used in your Menu Control Files to
refer to this message board. It is also the name displayed to
users, when the system shows messages from that board or scans
the message headers.
                            Read Priv

This is the lowest number a user's USERLOG.BBS privilege must
match or exceed to read messages on this message board.
                            Write Priv

This is the lowest number a user's USERLOG.BBS privilege must
match or exceed to be allowed to write a message on this
message board.
                       Authorization flags

If any "X" is set here, the user needs the same "X" set in his
userlog to either read or write the board.

Note: CEDIT Priv and Auth flags will cause access denied
messages if the user does not qualify for them, while your
Menu Control File priv and Auth flag settings on message board
access entries will control who sees the entry. This gives the
capability to allow a user to see a message section and not be
able to read (or write) to it, or to simply prevent him from
seeing it at all. If the Menu restrictions keep him from seeing
it, then the CEDIT restrictions are not used.
                  Message Board Type & Features

TY - Type of board.     S = Standard, E = EMAIL
PM - Private Messages.  Y = Allow, N = Don't allow.  N/A if this
                        board's Type is EMAIL.
CB - Combine Board.     Can the board's messages be combined with
                        messages from other boards for display to
                        a user with the proper access privileges 
                        and flags? (N/A with an EMAIL board.)
EF - Enclose Files.     Is a caller allowed to enclose files
                        on this message board?
NB - Networked Board    Is this board part of a network?
                      Message Header Format

These options indicate whether the following message header fields
will be displayed. (Note: not all combinations are possible).

FR - Display "From:" Field

TO - Display "  To:" Field

DA - Display Date message was entered.
                   Menu Display Format Options

These options allow you to affect the display format of menus in
ANSI mode.

You also control the action taken when billing class limits
expire in this section.
              Suppress CLS on Menu Loads in ANS mode

In ANSI mode TBBS normally issues a Clear Screen to the ANSI
colors you have set in SYSTEM OPTIONS before each menu command.
If  you set this option to YES, then this will not be done on
TYPE 5 and TYPE 45 menu load commands.  This allows you to do
"pull down" menus if you wish by controlling the clear screen
in your menus themselves.
              Suppress "Command:" prompt in ANS mode

Setting this option to YES causes TBBS not to print the prompt
"Command:" after listing menu text in ANSI mode.  This allows you
to control the "look and feel" of your ANSI menus more fully.
              Display Xpert 1 as Xpert 0 in ANS mode

Setting this option to YES causes TBBS to display menu text
identically in menu prompting level 1 as for level 0 in ANSI
mode.  This allows use of more intricate menu formats without
having TBBS try to compress them in menu prompting level 1.
              Carriage Return is a Normal Menu Key

Setting this option to YES causes TBBS to treat carriage return
the same as any other character in a menu's KEY= field.  If
this option is set to NO, then carriage return will re-display
the menu text at the next lower expert level.
                   Billing Class 0 Change Flags

When the authorized Class 0 time limit expires the user is logged
off and one of two actions is taken as follows:

If all of the flags are set to "don't change" ("-"), then TBBS 
will restrict the caller from the system until his userlog 
is re-authorized. On each attempt to logon TBBS will display the
1st one of the following it can find: NOCLASS0.ANS, NOCLASS0.TXT,
or an internal message (if no file could be found).

If any of the flags are set to "X" or ".", those changes will be
made permanently to the caller's userlog.  Then the limit
for Class 0 time will be removed and the caller will
proceed with his flags changed and no time limit.
                   Billing Class 1 Change Flags

When the authorized Class 1 time limit expires one of two actions
is taken by TBBS as follows:

If all of the flags are set to "don't change" ("-"), then TBBS 
will restrict the caller from Class 1 Menus until his userlog 
is re-authorized. On each attempt to access a Class 1 menu TBBS
will display the 1st of the following it can find: NOCLASS1.ANS,
NOCLASS1.TXT, or an internal message (if no file could be found).

If any of the flags are set to "X" or ".", those changes will be
made permanently to the caller's userlog.  Then the limit
for Class 1 time will be removed and the caller will
proceed with his flags changed and no Class 1 limits.
                   Billing Class 2 Change Flags

                      Authorize Features

This area of CEDIT allows you to set the PRIV levels that users
must have to be allowed to use certain features of TBBS.

This allows you to control who can use certain system and
message base capabilities.
          Priv level required to <E>nclose files in msgs

This option sets the minimum privilege level required to use the
<E>nclose option which allows a caller to enclose a file within a
message. If he has this priv level or higher and the message
board is defined as allowing enclosures, he will be able to
upload files into messages he leaves.

Note: any caller who can read a message, even if his priv is
lower than this setting, can retrieve a file which is
enclosed in that message.
            Priv level required to <F>wd rcvd messages

This option sets the minimum priv level required to be able to
forward a message. In addition to having this priv level, the
message must be addressed to the user, and the above option to
allow the <F>wd option to appear on the pause prompt line
must be set.
          Priv level required to request Return Receipts

This option sets the minimum priv level required to be able to
request an active return receipt for a message. If the caller has
a Priv level greater than or equal to this one, then the <R>cpt
option will appear on his message entry edit line to allow him
to request a return receipt.
         Priv level required to do Multiple Copy Mailing

This option sets the minimum priv level required to be able to do
either Distribution list or Carbon Copy mailings (i.e. those
message entry methods which result in multiple messages being
generated on a single message entry.  If a caller does not have
this privilege level or higher, and attempts to do either of
these mailing methods, he will get a message indicating he is not
authorized to do this.
         Priv level required to have a private Cubbyhole

This option sets the minimum priv level required to be able to
have access to the <C>ubby command on a message read pause line.
This command is the only way to enter messages into a private
cubbyhole, so anyone who has a priv level lower than this will
not be able to place any messages in their cubbyhole and thus
will effectively not have a cubbyhole.
         Priv level required to quote text in a reply

Any user who has a priv level lower than this will not have
access to the ^Q quoting command in the message editor during
message entry.  This means they cannot insert copies of the
text from the message they are replying to into the message
they are creating.
         Priv level required to use Full Screen Editor

Any user with a priv level below this will not be able to use
the full screen editor.  Setting this priv to 255 means that only
the SYSOP can use the full screen editor.  All other users will
be placed in the line editor regardless of their user profile.
         Priv level to have case sensitive passwords

When any user with this priv level or higher logs on, their logon
password will be case sensitive.  This greatly increases security
against hackers finding this password.  If this setting is zero
then all users have case sensitive passwords.  If this setting is
255 then only the SYSOP has a case sensitive password.  You may
want to set this so that beginning users don't have a problem
remembering that their password is case sensitive.  But you
should make sure than any priv level which allows significant
modification of your system has a case sensitive password.
                        Color Preferences

This section will allow you to set the colors that TBBS displays
when a caller has ANSI set.  You can set these colors for several
areas of TBBS display.
                   Default ANSI Colors

This option selects the colors which TBBS will set for an ANSI
caller's screen when an internal command is invoked.  This allows
consistent color format even with "hot key" action.

The first digit is the background color:

                       File Handling Options

This section will allow you to set default TBBS directories, for
TBBS's temp files, and menus.

Here you can also set up local and/or remote staged handling for
slow or CDROM drives.
                   Local Slow/CDROM Drives

This option specifies the drive letters which are slow enough
that TBBS should "stage" the files from these drives by copying
them to a hard drive directory before the user accesses them.

Specify each drive letter with a comma between it.
                   Local Staging Directory

This option specifies the hard drive directory where TBBS will
copy files which are staged from a local "slow" drive.
                   Remote Slow/CDROM Drives

This option specifies any NETWORK drive letters which are slow
enough that TBBS should "stage" the files from these drives by
copying them to a hard drive directory before the user accesses
them.

Specify each drive letter with a comma between it.

Note: LAN staging involves use of a server on another computer
which is LAN connected to your TBBS machine, and which must be
properly set up.
                   Remote Request Directory

This option specifies the hard drive directory where TBBS will
place request files for the remote "slow" drive server to
access.  TBBS expects that this action will cause the remote
server to copy the requested file(s) to the Remote Staging
Directory specified below.
                   Remote Staging Directory

This option specifies the hard drive directory where TBBS will
expect files to be staged by the LAN connected remote file
server when staging requests are completed.
                   Remote Staging Method

This option specifies the remote staging method which is used
by the CDROM or other slow drive server as follows:

0 = No remote staging

1 = MFM compatible remote staging protocol

2 = COPYIT compatible remote staging protocol

3 = TBBS compatible remote staging protocol
                  TBBS Temp File Directory

This option specifies the hard drive directory where TBBS will
place the temp files it creates as it runs.  If this directory
is not specified, then temp files are built in the current
default directory (normally the TBBS directory).
                  TBBS Menu File Directory

This option specifies the hard drive directory where TBBS will
first look for Menu files.  If a menu is not found here, then
TBBS will search the current default directory followed by all
directories in the SET TBBSPATH= list.  If this path is left
blank, then TBBS looks first in the default directory, and then
it will search all directories listed in the SET TBBSPATH= list.
                       Logon Greeting Text

You may define up to a 255 character message here which is 
displayed to each caller at logon.  This display occurs before
the user is asked for an ID.
                       Logoff Greeting Text

You may define up to a 255 character message here which is
displayed to each caller at logoff.
              Defining Real-Time Conferences

This area of CEDIT allows you to define up to 25 public
conferences by name.  These conferences always "exist" and you
may then construct menu entries to access them. You do not need
such named conferences to have real time conferencing, as private
conferences and the 40 channel "CB" simulator always exist and
you may make menu items to allow access there as well.

However, public conferences allows you to create areas for
specific types of discussion. Also, public conferences may be
"Recorded". If they are recorded, then a running disk
transcript is made of all discussions taking place there.
                         Conference Name

This is the name you give the conference.  This name is used
in the Opt Data field of one or more menu entries to reference
this conference.
                    Conference Recording Mode

This indicates if the conference is to be recorded by default.

Note: Any user with SYSOP privilege (254 or 255) can use the
/RECORD ON|OFF command to turn recording on or off no matter
how you set this flag.
